What are the building blocks of matter?

What are the most fundamental building blocks of all matter -- the pieces of matter that make up everything from flowers to people to galaxies and cannot be broken down into anything smaller?

Model of a Helium Atom

This helium atom is not drawn to scale. In a real atom, the protons and neutrons are far larger than quarks and electrons, and there would be much more empty space. In fact, if this atom were the size of a large city, each proton and neutron would be the size of a person, and each quark and electron would be smaller than a tiny freckle.

Scientists once thought the most fundamental building block of matter was a particle called the atom. Now we know that the atom is made of many smaller pieces, known as subatomic particles.

Every atom contains a central core called the nucleus, made of particles called protons and neutrons. The nucleus is surrounded by mostly empty space, except for very tiny particles called electrons that orbit the nucleus. Recently, scientists have discovered that protons and neutrons are made of smaller particles known as quarks.

Today, physicists don't know of anything smaller than quarks and electrons, but they don't know for sure whether these are the simplest building blocks of matter.

Have you ever think about your appearance?
I mean the way that you wear. As you know some people pay lot’s of attention to their own clothes.
Surely it’s obvious that others appearance is important. But you know people’s status (their category) in society force them to wear special things or act in different way. :: استرس (stress) در زبان انگليسي

در بيشتر ديکشنريها براي نشان دادن استرس (stress) از علامت ' استفاده مي‌کنند. گاهي هم از حروف بزرگ استفاده مي‌شود. به عنوان مثال به کلمه‌هاي زير دقت کنيد:

در کلمه اول استرس روي سيلاب (يا بخش) سوم (-zine) و در کلمه دوم روي سيلاب اول (-let) قرار دارد.

هر کلمه انگليسي که داراي دو يا چند سيلاب باشد، حتماً داراي يک سيلاب استرس دار نيز مي‌باشد:

:: چگونه لهجه خود را کاهش دهيم

بسياري از مشکلاتي تلفظي که زبان‌آموزان با آنها مواجه هستند در نتيجه استفاده غلط از اصواتي است که در زبان مادري خود به کار مي‌برند. بنابراين مشکلات تلفظي که شما از آن رنج مي‌بريد احتمالاً مشابه مشکلاتي است که ديگر زبان‌آموزان «هم زبان» شما هم با آن مواجه هستند. وقتي يک انگليسي‌زبان بومي (native) به شما مي‌گويد که شما (بعنوان مثال) لهجه روسي يا چيني داريد، در واقع اين نکته را تأييد مي‌کند. بسياري از برنامه‌هاي کاهش لهجه بر اساس تحقيقاتي است که اصوات خاصي را که هر گروه زباني (مثلاً فرانسوي، چيني، اسپانيايي، ژاپني و ...) موقع اداي کلمات انگليسي دارد، مشخص مي‌کنند. بعنوان مثال 70% اسپانيايي‌ زبانها در تلفظ صداي /st/ در کلمه stick مشکل دارند در حاليکه چيني زبانها هيچ مشکلي در تلفظ آن ندارند. نکته‌هاي زير به شما کمک مي‌کنند که تأثير زبان مادري خود بر انگليسي‌تان را کاهش دهيد.

:: چطور با خواندن، انگليسي خود را تقويت کنيم؟

سريع خواني

معمولاً افراد هنگام مطالعه‌ي يک متن (مثلاً يک روزنامه) سعي مي‌کنند با حداقل تلاش و حداکثر سرعت به مضمون اصلي مطلب پي ببرند. شايد بتوان اين استراتژي را «سريع خواني» ناميد. در اين استراتژي مغز تلاش مي‌کند تا جاي ممکن کلمات کمتري را بخواند و تنها کسري از ثانيه روي هر کلمه توقف مي‌کند. ممکن است زبان‌آموزان نيز اين استراتژي را براي خواندن متون انگليسي بکار بگيرند.

حال بايد ديد اين استراتژي (سريع خواني) چه ويژگيهايي دارد:

:: آيلتس چيست؟

آزمون آیلتس (IELTS= International English Language Testing System) جهت سنجش میزان آمادگی داوطلبان برای ادامه تحصیل، فراگیـری مهارتهـای تخصصـی و یـا کار و اقامـت در کشـورهـای انگلیسی زبان طراحی شـده است. ایـن آزمون مشترکاً تـوسط دانشگاه کمبریج، کنسول بریتانیـا (British Council) و مرکز آیلتس استرالیا در بیش از 500 مرکز در 120 کشور جهان برگزار می‌شود و سالانه چیزی حدود یک و نیم میلیون نفر در آن شرکت می‌کنند.

این آزمون در دو نوع مختلف موجود می‌باشد: آکادمیک (Academic) و عمومی (General Training). افرادی که قصد تکمیل تحصیلات خود در دانشگاههای انگلیسی زبان را دارند (کارشناسی به بالا) باید از نوع آکادمیک این آزمون، و افرادی که به منظور گذراندن دوره‌های کوتاه‌مدت فنی و حرفه‌ای، اخذ دیپلم، کار و یا اقامت قصد سفـر به کشورهـای انگلیسی زبان را دارند، می‌توانند از نوع عمومی این آزمون استفاده کنند.

تافل يک آزمون جـامع زبان انگليسي است که بـراي ورود به بيش از 4400 کالج و دانشگاه در ايالات متحده و کانادا، و ديـگر بخشهـاي جهان، مورد نيـاز مي‌باشد. همچنيـن خارجياني که داراي مشاغل حرفه‌اي مي‌باشند، بـراي ادامه فعاليتهاي حرفه‌ايشان در آمريکا و کانادا مرتباً به يک رتبه تافل نياز دارند.
